Mexican Cinco De Mayo ideas: Raspberry Tequila Nieve
Cinco De Mayo 5th/May commemorates the Mexican army's 1862 victory over France.
This is a recipe from Thomasina Miers : Mexican food made simple, and she is the owner of the Wahaca Mexican restaurants in London. And her book has some really good recipes.
I love tequila, ( who doesnt lol ) and the combination of the tequila and raspberries is just amazing , and this Nieve its just perfect for summer :)
Raspberry Tequila Nieve

Ingredients :
200g Caster Sugar
500g Raspberries
Juice of 1/2 lime
3 tbsp Tequila
Gently heat 150g of the sugar with 150ml of water in a heavy-bottomed panto make a sugar syrup. When the sugar dissolved, boil for three minutes, remove from the heat and set aside.
Puree the raspberries and remaining sugar in a food processor.
Pass the puree through a sieve to remove the pips.
Add the sugar syrup to the puree, together with the lime juice and only one tablespoon of the tequila (too much alcohol will mean the nieve will never freeze properly).
Pour the mixture into a shallow freezer proof container or tray and place in the freezer for about two hours until partially frozen.
After two hours, remove the nieve from the freezer and mix it up with a fork to break up any ice forming. return to the freezer and leave for another hour. Repeat the process until you have a crunchy frozen Nieve.
Serve the nieve in small bowls with a little extra tequila poured on top :)

"When Consumers think of Malbec, only one country comes to mind : Argentina" 17th of April : Malbec world Day.
"April 17th was chosen by Wines of Argentina for the celebration of Malbec World Day, not only because the creation of the Quinta Normal represented the transformation of Argentinian winemaking, but because it amounted to the starting point for the development of this variety, the flagship of the Argentine wine industry worldwide".
Malbec was originally one of the minor blending varieties of red Bordeaux, but it's home now is well and truly in Argentina.
Argentina is the main producer of Malvec followed by France, Italy , Spain , south Africa , new Zealand and the USA.
Malbec grapes are reasonable small, very dark and juicy.
The wine's most significant characteristic it's intense dark color. Malbec pairs well with red meats, grilled meats, hard cheeses and pasta with tomato sauce.
And today, Malbec World Day it's being mentioned at the Argentinian Film festival in London , which starts today . Cheers !!
Expect more Argentinian events to come !!!
Latin America moving forward.

British people and quinoa ... How the revolutionary healthy grain is changing not only Britain but the whole world ?
2013 its consider to be THE year of the quinoa, a year of recognition of the super food. A healthy grain from the Andes.
British people have now adapted the quinoa in their day to day recipes, it's more common to see in your local British supermarket ready made salads with quinoa, to see it in menus of restaurants, and to see it packed on shelves of supermarkets. It's become more accessible than ever.
More than ten years ago when I first came to the UK, I could hardly find quinoa anywhere. The quinoa we had at home was from Bolivia, my aunty used to bring back some, from her holiday trips.
I remember the first time I saw quinoa in a packet at a supermarket, my reaction I think it was priceless, I was shocked, happy, smiling, as if perhaps I would of won a prize, even happier as I read where did it came from .... "produce of Bolivia".
From that moment little did I know that quinoa would become a very popular ingredient within the British people.
There was a time when people became more aware of healthy eating, dealing with obesity and having campaigns for British schools to have healthy school dinner options. All of this I think helped the quinoa to become THE most talked grain in the UK, emphasising how healthy it is.
"Unlike wheat or rice, quinoa is a complete protein - containing all eight of the essential amino acids. It has been recognised by the United Nations as a supercrop for its health benefits: packed with dietary fibre, phosphorus, magnesium and iron. It is also gluten-free and easy to digest. The facts suggest it is close to a perfect ingredient as you can get." as seen in the BBC Good food website.
It's changing the way we are eating, we are becoming more aware of how nutritions is to eat quinoa. High demand of the grain has resulted of producing it not only in Peru or Bolivia, but everywhere around the world. I believe the original it's always better , quinoa from my country Bolivia will always be the best for me.
Bolivia its been recognized by the production of their quinoa, the revolutionary healthy grain that its changing the way we are eating globally, the hind demand in quinoa, should be very much beneficial for Bolivia.
